I can't believe my baby is 6 months old already. He is getting SO big and doing SO many things, he almost doesn't seem like a baby anymore. It has been 4 months since I've posted, and in the past 4 months Jon has: rolled over 100s of times, begun sitting up unassisted, eating solid foods (by solid, I mean pureed veggies and fruits...although he HATES bananas!), and my personal favorite, saying "ma-ma." Sometimes I watch him sleep, and he just amazes me with how much he has changed in such a short amount of time (let's be honest, I have underwear WAY older than my son, and I don't think they've changed that much!). He is turning into this incredible little person, complete with hilarious personality and tempestuous moods. I am crazy about this kid. I always have been, but now, my reasons are changing. I have always been nut-so, crazy, coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs for this baby because he is my son, my flesh and blood. I now find myself equally, if not more, absolutely head over heels for this guy...because of who he is. This little person, developing his own opinions and expressions. It's fantastic to watch this transformation, and I am so blessed to be able to be home with Jon everyday to see it happen.

I love you, little man. You make my heart sing. Thank you for being exactly the way you are, my little goo-goo bean. I am one lucky mommy.

Listening in...

So, I'm sitting here enjoying my morning cup of coffee and checking my email, when the baby monitor lights start flashing, indicating my little guy is starting move around in his cradle. Out of habit, I start to push back my chair to get up and retrieve him from his morning nap...when I realize...he is happily coo-ing away. I am not sure what he's looking at, but he is enthralled and vocalizing his pleasure by "goo-goo-ing" and "ahhh-wooo-wooo-ing." I want to get up and get him, but I am transfixed by the sound of my son's joyful chatter. So I just sit here and watch the monitor blink away as his sweet, little baby voice fills the air. There is truly nothing better than listening to a happy baby!

I am usually a little slow to completely wake up and get moving each morning, and until I've had my coffee, I am not exactly cheerful. So it surprises me to all get-out that my son opens his eyes and begins "talking" and smiling. So much so, I have begun calling him Mr. Smiles.

As I am sitting here eavesdropping on my son's conversation (with himself) I hear a distinct noise. A little like thunder coupled with a whoopee cushion. Oh dear. The happy baby noises have stopped. The room has gone quiet. More thunder. More whoopee cushion. That can only mean one thing.

I gotta run. Mr. Smiles is yelling for me to come and see what he's done.

And baby makes...six!

Hi, friends and family! Welcome to our Schiffman family blog.

Since this is our first post, let me take a moment to introduce our family to you and yours:

Brian/Daddy, Kristen/Mommy, Jack, Nicholas, Stella...and the newest member to join our family...Baby Jonathan! We are your typical, garden variety, all-American, blended family of SIX!

Here's our Reader's Digest Bio: after 1 1/2 years of wedded bliss, we realized we had far too much free time, sleep and money, so we decided to have a baby! Baby Jonathan entered the world on December 18, 2008, to the delight of Daddy and Mommy, and big brothers Jack and Nick, and big sister Stella, and Nanina, and Grandma Sheila, and Grumpy and Nani, and Great Grandma Jane and Great Grandpa Raleigh (a.k.a. Big Paul), and Nana, and all of his aunts, uncles and cousins, and...well, you get the idea. This kid is loved. Big time!

Since many of our family live outside of the Los Angeles area, we have started this blog to give everyone a snapshot of what goes on in our lives. We invite you to join us as we chronicle the laughs and tears, and ups and downs and all of the adventures the Schiffman family encounters!
